During clinical application, it was found that Bimatoprost significantly increases the growth of the eyelashes when applied to the upper eyelid. Bimatoprost is usually sold under the name of Lumigan and careprost, which is used in cases of decreased growth of lashes and Latisse which is used to increase the growth of lashes making them longer, darker and thicker. In reality, there is no difference between Careprost, Lumigan, Bimat and Latisse. All contain the same active ingredient - Bimatoprost 0.03% in ophthalmic solution 3 ml and have identical effects on eye pressure and eyelash growth. Careprost is currently manufactured by Sun Pharma.

How does Careprost work?

The active principle of Careprost - Bimatoprost is a synthetic compound used for growth serum, the derivative of prostaglandin. After the application, the medication improves the circulation of liquid in the eyes and thus decreases intraocular pressure. By reducing intraocular pressure, Careprost helps prevent damage to the optic nerve. With decreased intraocular pressure, Careprost can be applied on the upper eyelid to promote eyelash growth. Bimatoprost makes the lashes darker, longer and thicker. The effect is usually observed within 8-12 weeks. The mechanism of action of Careprost is related to the activation of the anagen phase (phase of growth) of the eyelashes, making this phase more intensive for longer.

When is Careprost prescribed?

Bimatoprost in ophthalmic solution is the subject of a license to treat: 

·         · Eye pressure Increased (ocular hypertension) 

·         · Open angular glaucoma

·         · Careprost eye drops can also be used to increase eyelash growth

How are Careprost eye drops applied?

Careprost is a prescription medication prescribed by a doctor. The recommended dosage standard of Careprost for the treatment of increased intraocular pressure is a drop in the affected eye once a day in the evening. If Careprost is used to stimulate the growth of the eyelashes, a drop is applied using a sterile applicator to the upper lash line of each eye daily before bedtime. 

When is Careprost contraindicated? 

Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution is contraindicated for use under the following conditions: 

·         · Inflammatory eye diseases such as uveitis and iritis 

·         · Aphakia (lens disappeared in the eye)

·         · An artificial lens of the eye

·         · Reactions of hypersensitivity to the ophthalmic solution Bimatoprost

·         Pregnancy (pregnancy category C)    

Breastfeeding

Careprost eye drops can permanently obscure the iris and skin around the eyes.
 

Medication can cause hair growth in unwanted places. Bimatoprost can also cause swelling of the macula of the eye. Try to avoid contaminating the tip of the bottle because this can cause a bacterial keratitis. You should remove your contact lenses before applying Careprost. If you develop eye diseases or are going to have an eye surgery, talk to your doctor.

What are the side effects of Careprost?

·         · Most common side effects of Careprost include irritation, redness, burning, itching in the eyes 

       ·         · Less common side effects of Careprost include: vision problems, obscuration of the eyelids, inflammation of the eyelids, punctual epithelial keratopathy, eye fatigue, Iris obscuration, Cataracts, increased sensitivity to light
